When the Hungarian Wine Academy was founded, it made promoting responsible and cultured wine consumption one of its key missions. In keeping with this commitment, the Academy has for years sought to be present at events where it can meet consumers who see wine as more than simply a beverage. They appreciate its cultural value, its role in science and the arts, and its significance as an important symbol of Hungarian national identity.
Unfortunately, recent years have not been favourable for the growth of wine consumption in Hungary. The gastronomic habits of younger generations, in which wine should have an important place, have increasingly moved in a different direction. It is our responsibility to help change this and to restore the prestige and recognition of Hungarian wines through professional expertise and culinary experiences. While Hungary is not currently considered one of the world’s major wine powers, the country has a remarkable winemaking heritage and a wealth of distinctive, high-quality wines.
This year’s programme brings all of these elements together. Throughout the four days of the festival, the Hungarian Wine Academy’s stand will welcome the current Winemakers of the Year and their guests, while the Junibor Association will also join us. In other words, the present and future generations of Hungarian winemakers will come together, united by their respect for and commitment to Hungarian wine.
