For 24 years now, the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta and the Budapest Wine Festival have been collecting money together to help children, adults, the elderly and people in need in poorer communities. On 10 October, the donations of Hungarian winemakers will be auctioned off at a charity wine auction dinner, where the money raised by the bidders will be used to help the cause. This year, the Charity Service has a particular objective in mind.

We need a place where everyone can meet in person.

We need a place where we can get to know each other's lives better.

We need a place that belongs to all of us.

The Charity Service has purchased the former District Court building in Szécsény, and is trying to prepare this building complex, which has seen better times, for an even better future through volunteer work in the spirit of sustainability and recycling. This is no small undertaking, but it is an important investment. In this space between the welfare society and the hardship communities, we are planning cultural and professional events that are accessible to all.

Thanks to a lot of voluntary work, we have been able to organise concerts, exhibitions, family days, dance festivals, fairs and professional meetings, because the town is less than two hours away from Budapest and there are 31 catching-up settlements in the area.

The existing three spacious apartments are suitable for children from the villages as well as for visitors and tourists wishing to explore the area.

However, a lot of work and resources are still needed to restore and maintain the more than 1,000 square metres of buildings and their large backyard. The generous support of all people of goodwill would be needed to help with this huge task of renovating and maintaining the buildings. To have a place where everyone can feel at home. A place where people can meet and where social inclusion can become a common cause. Anyone can support this cause, even with a few thousand forints, by visiting the website below:
